From the crowded avenues of New York and the historic streets of Philadelphia to the sun-drenched corners of Miami and San Diego. I drove through the highways of Dallas and walked the quiet neighborhoods of Seattle.

Despite the different landscapes, I saw the same story everywhere.

I saw people rushing through the city, surrounded by millions, yet walking entirely alone. I saw drivers on the freeway, isolated in their thoughts. I thought of my own friends back home, quietly doing chores in empty houses after their children had moved away.

It made me realize that entering our 40s and beyond brings a unique kind of silence. We have more freedom, yes, but often fewer opportunities to simply connect.
